The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, Mr. Augusto Santos Silva, has presented the initiatives to be held during the Month of Portugal in the USA, organized by the Embassy of Portugal in Washington, at a public session held on 24 May that took place in the Palace of Necessidades, in Lisbon. The Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities, Mr. José Luís Carneiro, and the Secretary of State for Internationalization, Mr. Eurico Brilhante Dias, were also in attendance.
The events marking the Month of Portugal in the USA will take place in June in over 60 cities throughout the USA. 135 events are scheduled in all, including the celebrations of the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities on 10 June, which will include the presence of the President of the Portuguese Republic, Mr. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and of the Prime-Minister, Mr. António Costa.
According to Mr. Santos Silva, the objectives of the “Month of Portugal in the USA are four-fold: deepening bilateral relations, increasing the visibility of Portugal in the USA, remembering the geographic proximity between the two countries, and strengthening the ties between Portugal and the Luso-American community.
