The applications for the 3rd edition of the Imprensa Nacional/Ferreira de Castro Award are open from the 1st of April to the 30th of May.
This award is granted by the National Printing Office (Imprensa Nacional), in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, within the scope of the cultural action carried out among the Portuguese communities.
This is an annual award that distinguishes original works in the areas of Fiction and Poetry. In addition to the monetary value of 5,000 euros, the Imprensa Nacional/Ferreira de Castro Award also includes the publication of the winning work by the National Printing Office.
The jury is composed of the scholar Carlos Reis (who chairs it), the chief editor of the National Printing Office, Paula Mendes, and the university lecturer Fátima Marinho.
In the 1st edition (2019), the Imprensa Nacional/Ferreira de Castro Award distinguished ex-aequo the works Não Viajarei por Nenhuma Espanha by Marcus Quiroga Pereira (1954-2020), a candidate of Portuguese descent, and Uma Casa no Mundo by Irene Marques, a Portuguese living in Toronto (Canada). In the last edition (2020), the Imprensa Nacional/Ferreira de Castro Award distinguished Mónica Auer, a Portuguese living in Germany, for her poetry work A Parte pelo Todo.
Besides paying tribute to Ferreira de Castro's outstanding and outstanding figure, the Imprensa Nacional/Ferreira de Castro Award aims to reinforce the sense of belonging to the Portuguese language and culture, as well as to promote the participation of people of Portuguese descent and Portuguese living abroad, thus providing to the Portuguese communities spread across the world the fair recognition for the activities they have been developing in their host countries.
